Director(s): Lloyd Kaufman, James Gunn (uncredited)
Producer(s): Lloyd Kaufman, Michael Herz
Writer(s): James Gunn, Lloyd Kaufman
Plot: Tromeo and Juliet was released in 1996 by the B-movie production company, Troma pictures.
The punk rock violent parody of William Shakespeare classic, Romeo and Juliet, the movie makers attempted to use gore and sexuality to shock the viewer in much the same way as it is believed actors might have done in Shakespeare's time[citation needed] (with proper adjustments to content to suit the times, updating the fashion and setting to contemporary needs, also in Shakespear's tradition).
The movie stars Jane Jensen, Will Keenan, Evan Roberts, Valentine Miele, Sean Gunn (brother of screenwriter James Gunn), Debbie Rochon and Maximillian Shaun. Lemmy, of Motörhead fame, narrates. It was adapted by James Gunn and Lloyd Kaufman, and also directed by Kaufman and, uncredited, Gunn.
Shortly after finishing this film, Kaufman and Gunn went on to write Kaufman's autobiography together: All I Need to Know about Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger.
